Both of these are great at working trigger points, but I am surprised at how much I love the porcupine ball. I am really glad I ordered them both at the same time.

This type of product brings surprisingly effective relief to stubborn aches and pains. I’d give it 5 stars except that this configuration seems a little complex to me. I prefer the more straightforward “Theracane” or others with only one curved end. The porcupine ball is nice to throw in your desk drawer at work or a suitcase for travel. For effectiveness, I prefer the Body Back Buddy, but it’s a lot of help in a small package.

I’ve been riding a road bicycle for nearly 10 years and one of the aches that I experience is a pain in my upper back and into my neck. One of the best ways to relieve this ache after a long ride has been the Body Back Buddy. All the different therapy knobs on the Back Buddy are perfect for reaching specific trigger points to relieve aches and pains in the upper back, neck, and other areas. The Back buddy is very smartly constructed with the many therapy knobs and built to last. The porcupine ball is an added bonus. As a self-massage tool, I place it on the floor and lay back on to it, rolling on it so that certain areas of my back are treated.

The rating could have been a strong four, maybe five but loses because the porcupine ball is pretty lame. Its the same thing as the laundry balls my mom puts in the dryer to get the fluff back into your clothes. I thought maybe the “spiraling of the nodules” might be different and perhaps the ball was more firmer than my mom’s laundry ball but they are virtually the same. I feel sort of gyped but oh well. I suggest sticking with a tennis ball if you have been (like myself). The back buddy is cool, its better than using a corner of a wall. I have neck and shoulder pain ON A DAILY, and this is convenient, but it doesn’t beat a real massage.
